Essential knowledge
Understand the risk
Learn the foundations of avalanche awareness, hazard assessment and tour planning.
We explain the avalanche bulletin, snowpack development and the main factors involved in avalanche formation.
Read the mountain
Practise observing slopes, identifying terrain traps and recognising signs of instability.
Learn how terrain choice and group management can reduce exposure to avalanche hazards.
Train for emergencies
Practise using an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe in realistic rescue exercises.
Learn the correct search sequence and how to react efficiently if an accident occurs.
Levels
Fitness
No special fitness requirements. The practical exercises take place within or close to the ski area.
Erfahrung
No previous avalanche training is required.
You should be able to move confidently on piste while carrying your avalanche rescue equipment.
